I got the idea for this card from some other cutting dies which I’d bought but didn’t even use for this card in the end – they just wouldn’t have worked, for reasons I won’t bore you with. But I still liked the idea of a greetings card themed around the phrase “there’s no place like home”, because (a) I’m a lifelong fan of the Wizard of Oz, and (b) it’s true, there really is no place like home 🙂 (I’m a bit of a hermit so this is quite a personal statement really!)
So, the card. It’s extra large, A5 sized, with several different elements.
There’s a bit of a moody sky in the background. This is from a pad of sky-patterned paper with each page having a different sky printed on it, so please note that each card is slightly different for this reason.
At the back of the scene is Emerald City, cut from green glitter card. Leading down from this towards the viewer is a yellow brick road, cut by hand from yellow pearlised card. Also by hand, I scored the individual bricks into the road for texture, and I then added a dash of slightly darker yellow alcohol ink over the top which in places has sunk into the gaps between the bricks, adding even more texture.
Next, I created a creepy forest either side of the road, cut from brown pearlised cardstock. Flying in front of Emerald City is a witch, cut from pearlised black cardstock but with her face, hands and legs hand-coloured with a green acrylic paint marker.
At the bottom is a plaque declaring “there’s no place like home”, which I printed in black with a green outline; I then used clear embossing powder to heat-emboss the word ‘home’, which adds some texture and emphasis.
Finally, atop the plaque is a pair of ruby slippers, die cut from red glitter card.
This is a very time consuming card to make, and this is reflected in the price.
This handmade greetings card measures 21 x 15cm, is supplied with a white envelope, and is protected in a cellophane bag.
