I’m not religious at all, but I do celebrate Christmas because I love the message that we should all be nicer to each other and live in peace and harmony. That little baby may or may not have been born some 2,000 years ago, but even if he was the figment of someone’s over-active imagination, the message endures.
For that reason, I’ve decided to add a nativity scene to my Lantin range this year. I found a lovely layered cutting die set which has three layers depicting the nativity, including the holy family, shepherds, angels, the wise men, palm trees, barnyard animals and, inexplicably, some fir trees (to my knowledge these are not native to Bethlehem, but I suppose some suspension of disbelief is always required when it comes to the story of the nativity).
I’ve used rather opulent cardstock for this one – metallic pearlised cards in three colours, with a lovely glittery royal blue background – and have used warm white USB-operated LED fairy lights to illuminate the scene. Each layer is nicely separated from the others by the clever use of some little card ‘shelves’, which were quite fiddly to do but really worth the effort.
This is a small rectangular Lantin, measuring roughly 14 x 10 x 4 cm. It is supplied with a matching lid, and presented in a Mooshkin branded cotton drawstring bag which also contains a 1m USB extension cord to give you a little extra reach in case your shelf and electrical socket have a bit of distance between them. You can buy additional (or longer) USB male/female extension cords at eBay, should you find you need one.
Note: you will need a USB plug (such as is used for charging a mobile phone) or a USB battery pack – neither of which are supplied with the Lantin. While my Lantins will undoubtedly be attractive to children, please exercise caution and keep the Lantin and its cables out of reach of tiny hands.
