It was a toss-up whether to call this ‘Croeso Adra’ (welcome home) or ‘Croeso i Gymru’ (welcome to Wales) – and ‘home’ won, because even if you’re just a visitor to Wales, before long it feels like home and you start suffering ‘hiraeth’ (a deep longing for a place, particularly Wales) whenever you’re not here.
I’ve made this one just in time for St David’s Day, which happens to be the date (1st March) of my first craft fair of 2025.
I fancied doing a Welsh-themed Lantin for ages but wasn’t sure how to go about it without it being overly tacky, if I’m honest… I think ‘Croeso Adra’ is just right. We have a blue sky with a few clouds in the background, and some tall mountains in a heather-purple pearlised card which I think illustrates very well the slate mountains of the Eryri region where I live. In front of those are some nearer mountains in dark green pearlised cardstock, and then some brighter green mountains which are reminiscent of the colour of the Welsh flag – again, in pearlised cardstock, which shimmers nicely in the in-built white lights.
In the foreground is a glittery red dragon, wings spread, its back claws holding a piece of ‘slate’ (that same heather-purple card) with individually die cut letters spelling out ‘croeso’ (‘welcome’).
I’ve made a couple of lovely 3D yellow card daffodils and added these either side of the slate. Finally the entire scene is encased in a frame of silver-white card, again evoking the Welsh flag.
This is a large rectangular Lantin, measuring approximately 17 x 13 x 5.5 cm. It is supplied with a matching lid, and presented in a Mooshkin branded cotton drawstring bag which also contains a 1m USB extension cord to give you a little extra reach in case your shelf and electrical socket have a bit of distance between them.
Note: you will need a USB plug (such as is used for charging a mobile phone) or a USB battery pack – neither of which are supplied with the Lantin. While my Lantins will undoubtedly be attractive to children, please exercise caution and keep the Lantin and its cables out of reach of tiny hands.
