My dragonfly danglers have been going down a treat at craft fairs for years. People often ask me how they’re made, so if you’re curious check out my tutorial!
Each dragonfly is hand made using three colours of polymer clay twisted and rolled together to make a very pleasing marbled pattern. The eyes are beads, the wings acetate. Each dragonfly’s body and wings are dusted with fine iridescent glitter to help it catch the sunlight.
Basically a sun catcher, each dragonfly dangler has four dragonflies of different colourways and five sets of sunlight-catching Czech crystal, glass, metal and acrylic beads. At the bottom of each dragonfly dangler is a ‘pendant’ (for want of a better word) – basically a ‘weight’ to help hold the thread straight. The ‘pendant’ might be made from lucite leaves and flowers, a large crystal, an arrangement of beads or a brass bell.
Due to metal parts (bead eyes, wire, etc) dragonfly danglers are not really suitable for outdoor use, as the metal will rust. But you could hang one from the underside of a sheltered area of your garden where it won’t get rained on. For best effect, though, just hang them inside a window that gets a lot of sun, and enjoy the colours and sparkle!
Each dragonfly dangler is completely unique – no two are identical. When you order, I’ll pick one at random for you so you’ll get a nice surprise. However, if you have a specific request regarding the colour scheme and/or the pendant, please do get in touch as I may be able to custom-make one for you.
Dragonfly danglers are not toys. Due to small parts and sharp wire, they are not suitable for handling by small children. While they’ll look great hanging at a child’s bedroom window, please make sure the dragonfly dangler is kept well out of the child’s reach.
