Upcycled painted tall hotdog jar
This whopper of a jar stands at a whopping 21.5cm tall so if you want to use it for storage, you’ll fit a fair bit in it. Of course, you could instead fill it with lights or stand it in front of a lamp or a sunny window, to really appreciate the colours.
The jar used to be a hotdog jar and it was donated to me by a hotdog vendor at the Caernarfon Festival a couple of years ago; he spotted that many of my glassware products were upcycled, and asked if I’d like a couple of his jars. Yes please!
I only have one of these available at the moment (I have one remaining empty one which I will paint eventually). I don’t eat meat so there’s no chance that I’ll buy enormous jars of hotdogs – so this will always be a rare product (if you’re bothered by that sort of thing).
I will actually be quite sad to say goodbye to this one, if someone buys it… it’s been a favourite of mine since the day I painted it!
Let there be light!
Please note that lights are not supplied with the item.
I sell bendable LED battery operated fairy lights. These give off a gentle warm glow.
To achieve the brightness of the fairy lights in the photos, you’ll need stronger lights. Amazon sell something similar to what I’ve used in the photos.
For the brightest light and colour effects, shine a small spotlight lamp through the painted part of the glass. To achieve this effect, you’ll need something similar to this USB bendy lamp from Amazon.
The jar can be gently washed by hand in warm, soapy water, but please note that it is NOT dishwasher safe. Wipe the paintwork gently – do not scrub.
